Using technology in care
at park lane healthcare, we use person centred software!
The recording of care delivery has always been problematic, because as the old saying goes: “if it isn’t written down then it didn’t happen”. With paper systems, there has always been a danger that documents would be lost or damaged, as well as the possibility of inaccurate recording with little accountability.
In late 2018, we took the decision to trial Person Centred Software’s “Mobile Care Monitoring”, an industry-leading electronic care management system, which captures real-time care delivery through an icon-based interface. It allows staff to quickly - yet more accurately - record care as they deliver it in real-time, and without having to create handwritten updates at the end of shifts, when things could be forgotten or inaccurate. On average, we determine it saves around an hour per staff member, per shift, meaning that more quality time can be spent with residents. Crucially, and particularly relevant during the Covid-19 pandemic, it means that every bit of information entered can be viewed securely and remotely - which it near-constantly is.
We are taking things one step further, and taking data directly from PCS and creating our own “data monitoring dashboards”, allowing us to see at a glance, and in real time, trends and patterns that can give us the information we need to tailor the care we deliver for everybody, and drill right down to the smallest detail about one particular resident. If a resident suffers a fall, often we as Directors will know about it at the same time as the carer recording it. Somebody’s weight exceeds a threshold (up or down), and we can quickly determine what factors may be involved, what actions to take, and whom to inform. I’m sure that you, the reader, may not be, but you can have comfort in knowing that we are excited about how we can better tailor the care we offer to our residents - and that is our driving force.

TheIR Finest Hour
Listen to our own tribute song, dedicated to our esteemed residents and a celebration of that generation wherever they may be. The lyrics were written by our Chairman, Chris Mitchell. The melody was written by local musician, George Hall. The song was sung wonderfully by Ian Donaghy, our former Care Training Director and lead singer of successful York party band, 'Huge'.
