Yarn Bomb

YARN BOMBING AT THORNTON-LE-DALE CARE HOME IS NO ‘YOKE’

This Easter, residents at The Hall residential care home celebrated with chocolate eggs, the Sound of Music and the start of a new yarn bombing tradition.

Residents at The Hall awoke on Thursday morning to a home decorated in colourful wool and cotton. In the cold weather that morning, Nicky, home manager, Kath, wellbeing coordinator, Peter, The Hall handyman and Dorothy, a volunteer from The Crafty Hubbers, had been busy decorating the home with colourful knits.

Nurses, local knitting group, The Crafty Hubbers, and members of the community, donated their time and helped residents and colleagues at The Hall knit, crochet and stitch more than 1,200 flowers and pollinating insects that they wrapped around the home and the grounds.

The Hall’s colourful yarn bombing will contribute to the North Yorkshire entry to the Britain in Bloom competition. Admired by all passers-by, the home wants to continue their community connections by decorating it in spectacular knits every Easter.

Monica Hindley, 80, resident at The Hall, said: “I love knitting and Dorothy from The Crafty Hubbers can turn our simple knits into beautiful works of art.”

Dorothy Ashton, volunteer with The Crafty Hubbers, said: “I would like to thank everyone at The Hall, Crafty Hubbers of Thornton-le-Dale, and the local community volunteersfor helping to knit, sew and crochet more than 1,200 flowers and bees to decorate the home this Easter. It was a tremendous team effort and looked fantastic!”

Nicky Beach, manager of The Hall, said: “The yarn bomb was an incredible piece of art that our residents loved participating in, and we want to thank the community for getting involved. We hope that we can continue to decorate our home in thousands of knitted flowers and bees for many more Easters.”
